❤️ 8 design tips to make visitors fall in love with your website
Discover eight design tips, from animations and video backgrounds to photography and colour, to capture your website visitors' attention.

Pedro Martins3 min readWhen designing a website, one of the first things to consider is how to catch visitors' attention. The homepage, header and chosen template are just some of the aspects that, when properly configured, make all the difference in creating a good first impression with potential customers. Animations and a good scrolling effect, among other things, can impress website visitors and make them want to stay. So we have selected eight design tips that can transform any website.
1. The power of animation
Whatever your industry, animations catch the attention of customers and potential customers. If a website really sets a business apart from its competitors, buyers will get that message.
2. Video backgrounds
Sometimes the best way to explain what a business does is to show a video. So why not add a good video to the website's background? As well as making the homepage more dynamic, this ensures that potential customers understand exactly what the business does. If the company has no videos of its own, the best option is to use stock videos that genuinely fit its work, or are vague enough to make visitors want to find out more.
3. The parallax effect
Adding dimension and depth to a website is always a good way to attract visitors. Better still if you can skilfully incorporate the parallax effect. After its boom in 2012, this tool is here to stay. If you are not sure what we mean, here is an explanation: parallax is the effect you see when a website's background image moves more slowly than the image layered over it.
4. The "thousand words" gallery
We all know a picture is worth a thousand words. That is why a good photo gallery on a website is an excellent way to show potential customers what the business does or which services it provides, drawing visitors' attention to what matters. Ideally, the photos should be taken at the business itself. If that is not possible, several websites let you buy or download for free thousands of professional photographs.
5. Combining text and images
If a website makes visitors laugh (or smile) within the first few seconds, you have already established a connection with the brand. Combining text and images, using a pun or even writing a tasteful joke can be a good way to attract attention and win over a potential customer.
6. Include high-quality images
A business does not need a photography portfolio to have high-quality images on its website. Ideally, you would hire a professional to capture its services, products or processes and show them to visitors. But sometimes high-resolution photographs, even abstract ones or images that simply convey 'feelings', are enough to catch visitors' attention. Another trick is a fixed header: when you scroll down the page, the menu remains visible at the top. This improves the user experience and helps visitors navigate to other pages more easily.
7. A musical welcome
Yes, music on websites has gone out of fashion. But what if a company works in that industry? Then, of course, visitors will want to hear at least a little. Remember: never set music or sounds to play automatically. Audio should only start after the visitor clicks a dedicated button.
8. A splash of colour
Often, all a website needs to really stand out is a splash of colour. Blocks of colour on websites draw visitors' eyes to the information shown. It is essential to combine shades well and, of course, choose only colours that suit the company's field.
