Twitter launches an audio-only broadcasting tool

Twitter has announced the launch of a new feature that will let users create audio-only broadcasts directly through the app, as well as from Periscope. The tool, which the company's CEO, Jack Dorsey, has already confirmed in a tweet, will be available in the same interface normally used for live video. It should, then, be accessible in the iOS app, as well as in Periscope.

In Portugal, this function is not yet available. When it is working, instead of only having the option to record video after tapping "live", the user will have access to a button where they can choose the option to broadcast audio only. This new feature has been in beta tests in recent weeks, but Dorsey's tweet, together with the app update being released, indicates that it should already be available for a large share of users.

The tech company has already confirmed to the media that the new tool is only available on Periscope and on the iPhone operating system. A date has not yet been given for it to reach other platforms as well. While only people who use Twitter in these two ways can make this type of post, users on the other platforms can see, and hear, of course, the audio recordings. As explained in the text that comes with the update, this tool is important for those times when you want your followers to hear you but not see you.
This can let users share news, live and audio-only, record mini podcasts, or simply post something for their followers that needs more than 280 characters to explain. Like live videos, the broadcasts will have statistics available, such as the number of people who watched in real time, who replayed the recording, viewing time (or listening time, in this case) and other metrics.

The company's plans were to share this news soon, in a post on the official blog, Twitter Engineering, but a tweet has since confirmed all these changes.
