🤙 Mozilla is getting a new logo. Why not improve yours?
Mozilla is asking users to help redesign the Firefox logo, and it may be time to take a fresh look at yours.

Pedro Martins2 min readA logo is, in many cases, the first impression customers have of a company. It is how the company presents itself to the public and, even if it has a great product or service, if it does not have a good image, it will not thrive.
It was with that in mind that Mozilla, the non-profit best known for the Firefox browser, decided to invest in a rebrand. To do that, it asked customers for help. Yes, really: in a post on its blog, Mozilla asked users for their opinion on the new design system. The goal was to redesign the 'fast fox' logo, finding a new image that better represents the set of products the company offers.

New apps, new image
"Firefox is creating new kinds of browsers, with new apps and services, taking the internet as a platform," wrote the designers and people in senior roles. "With your opinion, we can arrive at a final system that makes Firefox a product recognised around the world even if it does not have a fox in the logo," they say.
So the final designs will serve not only the browser but also other products still to be launched by the tech company.
If a company with high awareness and worldwide success considered changing the image it is known for, ask a few questions in your own company. Does the logo represent what you do? Does it follow some of the basic rules of design? Is it recognised? Does it bring advantages when it comes to sales? If you answered no, it is probably time to give your company a new image, positioning it in the best possible way to reach more sales.
Keep key elements or go for geometry
In these potential logos Mozilla made available, we notice two completely distinct directions. On the one hand the fox is kept, or something that reminds us of Firefox; on the other we see more geometric figures. Both versions are appealing but they are still prototypes, so the final result should still take a while to be revealed.
Although it will have no impact on the final decision, the company still wants to know users' opinions.
Have you thought about doing the same with your brand? Sometimes a rebrand is the turning point, for the better, for many companies.
